The effects of Ketu are somewhat similar to that of Mars. According to Vedic astrology Ketu is the representation of karmic collections both good and bad, spirituality and supernatural influences. Ketu is the lord of three nakshatras :Ashwini, Magha and Mula. Ketu stays for 18 months or 1.6 year in each Zodiac. The metal representing Ketu is Iron and Gemstone is Cat's Eye.

Some Remedies of Ketu

Donate a cat's eye gemstone, a brown cow with white spots, colored blankets or black mustard seeds on Thursday or a dog to a poor young man on Thursday.
Reciting of Shiva Panchakshari Stotra.
Worshipping Lord Ganesh.
Keeping a fast on the first Thursday of the waxing moon.
Chanting the Ketu Mantras 18000 times on 108 japa beads and performing puja with mixed flowers and sandal wood within the ascending cycle of the Moon. The recitation should begin on a Tuesday during the bright half of the Moon. The presence of 'Mahamrityunjaya yantra' at the place of recitation may help you in achieving the desired results faster.

I offer my obeisance to the violent and fearsome Ketu who is endowed with the potency of Lord Shiva and having a complexion resembling the flower of a palasa plant, he serves as the head of the stars and planets.

Remedies to Appease Ketu

Misdeeds, danger, anarchy, air accidents, rebellion, loss in wealth, spinal problems, untimely death, mental imbalance and fire accidents are some of the ill effects of Ketu.

Ketu likes sacred grass, flowers, red lotuses, horse gram, mustard-powder, cow-milk, dates, pineapple, sugar, seven-wick lamp, mid-night prayers, pepper, iron, neem and yam to mention a few. Seven is his favourite number and he should be worshipped on Tuesdays and Sundays. The Beejaakshara Mantra for Ketu is

"OM SRAAM SREEM SROUM SAHA KETAVE NAMAHA"

The ordinary mantra is:

KETU-Remedies

Ketu:
For Ketu related problems and during the Dasha or AntarDasha of Ketu:
1. Worship Lord Ganesha.
2. Recite Ganesha Dwadasanama Stotra and Shiva Panchakshari Stotra.
3. Japa of the Ketu Moola Mantra:
                Om shram shreem shroum sah ketave namah
Jap should be done 7000 times in 40 days and the pooja should be performed with ash colored flower and sandal.
4. Recite the Ketu Stotra:
               Palasha pushpa sankaasham taraka graha mastakam
               Roudram roudratmakam ghoram tam ketum Pranamamyaham.
5. Donate: A black cow or black mustard seeds, goat. blanket, weapons made of iron, sesame, dull brown colored items, limes etc. on Thursday. Offer usual food articles to dogs and sour things to female children below the age of nine years. Feed Brahmins (or poor people) with rice cooked with cereals. Donate a blanket to a temple esp. if progeny is affected.
6. Service and being kind to elderly/old people and saints. Not telling own sorrows or secrets to others (esp. when Ketu is the cause of that).
7. Fasting to be done  on Thursday.
8. Pooja: Ganesh pooja.
9. Rudraksha: Wear a 9 Mukhi Rudraksha.
10. Wear Gemstone  related to Ketu i.e. Cats Eye.
11. Recite 50th chapter of Ayodhya kanda from Valmiki Ramayana.
